Mr.
Roy H. McNeil
Chief Food Storage Officer
Mr.
McNeil began his career at the FSPID in 1998 as a Senior
Food Storage Scientist in the Training and Information Unit.
In January 2004, he assumed duties as the Chief Food Storage
Officer.
Mr. McNeil’s responsibility as director
of the FSPID is to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness
of the Jamaican government’s regulatory and surveillance
programme in food safety. He also functions as advisor to
the Ministry of Commerce, Science and Technology on food
safety matters.
Mr. McNeil has a Masters degree in Business
Administration (University of New Orleans), a Master of
Science degree (University of the West Indies), a Bachelor
of Science degree (honours) (UWI), an Associate of Science
degree (College of Agriculture) and a post-graduate diploma
in education (UWI).
His professional training includes Sanitary
and Phyto-sanitary Procedures for Agricultural Produce (World
Trade Organization Workshop), Certification in HACCP (Canadian
Food Inspection Agency) and Advanced International Training
in World Trade and Conformity Assessment (Swedish Board
of Accreditation).
He has served on many committees such as
the Pesticides Control Authority Board (1998–2003),
Jamaica Agricultural Society as president (1993), Jamaica
Quality Infrastructure Project and Agriculture Health’s
Food Safety Committee. He also holds the position of adjunct
faculty/external examiner for several tertiary level institutions
in Jamaica.
Mr. McNeil enjoys listening to music and
reading scientific journals.
